Gator got my Bass!
June 11, 2011 in Reports
This evening I hit the golf course for a couple hour session of top water action. There has been a serious drought this year in north west Florida and the lake has dropped a couple feet at least. One would think fishing might be a little easier right? Right off the bat I could see fish slurpin and slammin anything and everything along the bank. I threw out a froggy popper and stripped all along the bank. Hit after hit, but no takes. An hour or so passed by, and the bugs were out in full force. Reminds me, next time I need some bug repellent. I was getting ready to leave and decided to cast once more like we all do after we say were getting ready to leave. I throw, it hits and after one pop, a Largemouth crashes the surface. Once I hook up, I see miss gator who has been watching me the whole time, come charging my way. She was about 10 feet away, but made those 10 feet look like nothing with the speed she packs. If you have ever had a bear charge you and stop a few feet away, I would assume it probably feels like that. First thought in my head was “oh shit”! Before I could even get the fish up the bank, she had it in her mouth. Immediately after, she just strolled right on back out and faded into the darkness. It wasn’t long before I was broke off and she went to feed her foot long babies on the other side. It was about dinner time anyway…
