Loggerhead Longsleeve by Howler Brothers
September 8, 2011 in Gear Reviews
When I stumbled upon Howler Brothers months back I knew at first sight what I wanted. It was my style, and fit absolutely every aspect in a piece of clothing that I would wear. What initially caught my eye was the design then to follow was the build. The Loggerhead Longsleeve comes in two colors; azul or quartz and is constructed of 100% quick dry certified UPF 45. It breathes like no other! One of the my pet peeves in a shirt is any kind of loose flair at the waist of the shirt. The Loggerhead solved that problem and loosely conforms to the body. It feels great!
A cool and very unique feature to the Loggerhead is the zippered pocket in the rear of the shirt. It might look like an ordinary pocket, but thought was put behind it. The pocket size is decent and makes for a great place to store some small items. True it is just a pocket, but it is back lined with a sunglass-cleaning microfiber. Face it, no one brings their cleaning cloth with them out on the water or hiking through the woods. Wouldn’t it be sweet to have something built in to say, your shirt? It’s handy.
Like i’ve said before and will continue saying, these guys make unique items and definitely put a lot of thought into each piece. You don’t go to any given store and see shirts with buttons made from coconuts. It’s small additions like that which make something like this stand out differently from everything on sale today. If the buttons don’t get you then how about the Tonal Howler Monkey? Everyone loves monkeys! The last notable feature is the thumb holes in the the cuff. I know these are used in a few different ways and can become quite useful in some situations.
Overall, I love the shirt. Honestly I wear it more than any other in my closet and would probably declare it as my favorite. It’s safe to say all the neighbors think I wear the same shirt all the time, but I can’t help it. I’ve really only tested the Loggerhead in warmer weather and it performed very well. On the drive up here from Florida we did go through a couple storms and although I see this shirt as more of a warmer weather shirt, it was surprisingly a great windbreaker. This Winter it will still get use, but due to the Alaskan weather it will just be another layer!
